REWARDS FOR THE BOLD AND BRAVE

There are some universal marketing truths out there. For example - any advertising that is really annoying is usually also very successful at generating awareness.

It’s certainly something that was true during our time at esure with our use of Michael Winner, love him or hate him it was fantastically effective advertising and generated a huge acceleration of awareness in the brand. This method of success was then replicated with the launch of Sheilas’ Wheels.

Then there’s the Green Frog advert, again hugely annoying. However, it generated a huge amount of revenue in novelty ring-tones and acted as a platform to launch a Number 1 single, knocking Oasis off top spot. For those advertisers brave enough to accept that not everyone has to actually like their advertising in order for them to experience growth there are significant rewards out there.

Sometimes you have to be bold...as the ‘suits’ who authorised the Cadbury’s Dairy Milk Gorilla were...didn’t do too badly for them did it? Let’s just not mention the follow-up ‘runway’ effort...
